Jim Suckla Obituary

Memorial services for lifelong Cortez resident Jim Justin "Judd" Suckla will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at the Cortez Livestock Auction. Pastor Anthony Maes will officiate.

A dinner and gathering of friends will follow the services at the Lewis Arriola Community Center.

Judd was born March 9, 1968 in Cortez the son of Jimmy Gene and Sandra "Sandy" (Beaver) Suckla. He passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 in Cortez at the age of 44.

On Dec. 4, 1994 Judd married the love of his life, Kara Rachelle Young in Las Vegas, Nev. Judd spent his career buying and selling cattle at the Cortez Livestock Auction and the surrounding states. He began managing the daily operations of the Sale Barn in 2000. His life revolved around cattle; Judd won the Utah State Team Roping Championship in Ogden, Utah in 1997. He was also chosen as a judge for the World Auctioneering Championship in 2007. Judd was a member of the Cortez Elks Lodge, the Southwest Cattlemen's Association, the Livestock Marketing Association, the National Cattlemen's Association and is the current President of the Colorado Livestock Marketing Association.

When Judd wasn't at the sale barn, he enjoyed time spent hunting, golfing, coaching and auctioneering benefits. Judd was a family man at heart. He loved his wife and his two sons more than anything in this world.

Surviving Judd are his devoted wife, Kara Suckla of Cortez; his sons, Chase Dylan Suckla and Tanner Ryan Suckla, both of Cortez; his father and stepmother, Jimmy and Darline Suckla of Cortez; and his mother and stepfather, Sandy and Garth Greenlee of Cortez. Judd also leaves behind his siblings, Shannon Williamson and husband Charley of Cortez, and Kelly Oliver and husband Rick of Cortez; his mother-in-law, Judy Davis and husband Doug of Arriola; his father-in-law, Wayne Young and wife Barbara of Marshfield, Mo.; his sisters-in-law, Tasha Tranbarger and husband Marty of Shawnee, Kan., Terri Westerman and husband Joe of Aurora, Colo., and Tanya Zukel of Shawnee; his brother-in-law, Curtis Young of Ozark, Mo.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Judd leaves behind many close friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim Justin "Judd" Suckla's name to the Cortez Church of The Nazarene Building Fund, c/o Cortez Church of The Nazarene, 514 N. Chestnut Street, Cortez.
