Kathy Chaffin Obituary

Kathy was born in Cortez, CO to Jack and Wanda Loyd. She passed away at her home at the age of 66. Kathy moved to Springfiled with her parents as an early teen where they lived and ran a local restaurant. It was there on July 6th 1963, she married Chan Chaffin. Chan and Kathy moved back to Cortez and made their home in Arriola, CO. Throughout their 51 years of marriage Kathy helped her husband start and operate the Arriola Store for 20 years as well as many other businesses. In addition to helping with the businesses, Kathy worked for a number of years at the Vista Grande Nursing Home where she fell in love with the residents there, which turned into a life-long passion of volunteering and going to visit with the residents every Friday. Kathy was a very soft spoken and reserved person, but everyone that showed up at her door, could count on being treated like family and asked to stay for a home cooked meal. She had a real knack in the kitchen and was well known for her great cooking. She had a passion for antiques, and an eye for decorating and crafts. Often times, she was asked to give tours of her house, and loan out her talents and tips on decorating. Most importantly, Kathy loved the Lord and she loved her family, making sure to set time aside each day to study scripture and to make sure that her family was taken care of. Kathy leaves behind her loving husband of 51 years, Chan Chaffin. Her Children: Rick Chaffin of Cortez, Jason and Marsha Chaffin of Cortez, Litonya and Russel Gillan and two very special granddaughters Abbey and Zoe Gillan all of Las Vegas, NV. Her brother Mike Loyd and wife Judy of Cortez. Her Brother David Loyd and companion Susie of Cortez. Her Aunt Rachel Johns of Cortez. Her Uncle Leo Dennison and wife Janet of Cortez. And many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved Son, Scott Chaffin. Her parents Jack and Wanda Loyd. Her grandparents: Ira and Elsie Dennison and Edward and Edith Loyd.

THE QUIET ONE

Yes, she was the quiet one but that was just her way,

A caring, generous lady with not a lot to say.

She would sit midst family and friends with a pretty smile upon her face,

A beautiful shining soul sharing her tenderhearted grace.

Whether good times or bad she was always there,

To celebrate or comfort and show her loving care.

Willing hands with many talents to help where there was need,

Giving her generous help and kindness wherever that might be.

Though her words few she knew how to have good fun,

Hearing her tell a funny story and laughing when she was done.

A wonderful wife and mother, the heart of her family,

So very loved by each of them and proud as she could be.

Yes she was the quiet one and her voice has now been stilled,

All pain and suffering are gone away and her place is heaven fulfilled.

But she will always dwell in our memories and deep within our hearts,

Until that glorious day with God when we shall never part.
