Kevin Wolff Obituary

On the 16th of June, 2022, Kevin Michael Wolff, loving husband and father of five children, entered into eternal rest at the age of 92. Kevin was born on May 21, 1930 in San Diego, CA to H. Patrick and Margaret (Madge) Wolff. He graduated from Saint Augustine High School, and later was drafted to serve in the Korean War as an automatic rifleman, during which he earned two Purple Hearts for wounds sustained in combat. On returning from Korea, he married Rosemary Beatrice Weseloh on June 6, 1953. An artist and self-taught woodcarver, Kevin became an entrepreneur, opening retail shops in tourist towns in Colorado and New Mexico through which he sold his creations, which were usually western-themed due in part to his experiences as a youth among the mines and miners of the Mojave Desert.

Kevin had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a witty quip. He was also an incurable romantic who hand-made his anniversary cards and gathered bouquets of wildflowers for Rosemary. Another great passion was opera. Their stories were a source of inspiration that resulted in numerous creations, including carved chess sets. Drawing on his Catholic faith, he filled his home with religious paintings and carvings. In his spare time, he loved to dream up new inventions, which he would share with his family. His experiences on the front in the Korean War left a lifelong impression on him. Many in his company did not survive the war, and Kevin made it his mission afterward to contact their families and give them whatever information he had in order to help bring closure.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, H. Patrick, and his mother, Madge, and his brothers Patrick and Peter. He is survived by his wife Rosemary and five children, Shauna Reston (Vic), Stephen Wolff, Miriam McCornick (Peter), Jon Wolff (Penny), and Brendan Wolff (Marie), his sisters Mary Lou Bartolomei, Doris Rivera, Margie Persson, and Joan Pernicano, as well as thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

A rosary will be held at 8:30 followed by the funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro, GA. The pallbearers are Jon Wolff, Stephen Wolff, Neal Wolff, Kyle Wolff, Liam Wolff, Evan Wolff, Philip O'Herron, Donnie DeAmicis, and Bob Crais.

In lieu of flowers, please pray or have Masses said for the repose of Kevin's soul.

Greetings from Michigan. Kevin was a master carver of native figures who represented all tribes with an accuracy and respect that could only have arisen from a deep appreciation of culture. Back in 2012 I tracked him down and commissioned a Baby Jesus carving from him to replace one missing from a nativity set which he carved that was owned by the late Ray Crenna. Being Kevin, he sent both Baby Jesus and a sitting wolf to protect the baby. What a generous and creative spirit has joined Heaven. Godspeed, Kevin.
