LaFawn May Obituary

Memorial services for Dolores resident LaFawn May will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 26525 Road M, Cortez. Bishop Larry McGee will be conducting.

LaFawn was born to Harold Joseph and Vera (Stratford) Humpherys in Osgood, Idaho, on Sept. 19, 1927. She passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the age of 83.

On December 21, 1948, LaFawn married Denton Brake May in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho. LaFawn attended Utah State University, earning a degree in Dietetics in 1949. A lifelong member in the LDS Church, LaFawn devoted much of her time to genealogy and other church activities. In her free time, LaFawn enjoyed spending time in her garden.

Surviving LaFawn are her husband, Denton May of Dolores; her children, Doug May and Linda Talley of Dolores, Gordon May and wife Julie of Elizabeth, Colo., and Janet May of Durango; her brothers, Keith Humpherys and wife Ferl of Chico, Calif., DeVerl Humpherys and wife Jackie of Provo, Utah, H.L. Humpherys and wife Mary Jo of Tucson, Ariz., and Dee Humpherys and wife Susan of Provo, Utah; her grandchildren, Dylan May, Alec May and Leighann Miller, and Alyssa May; and her first great-grandchild due in June.

LaFawn was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Vera Humpherys; and her brother, Allan Humpherys.

Memorial contributions can be made in LaFawn's name to the Leonard Cain Scholarship Fund in care of Forth and Associates, 432 N. Broadway, Cortez, CO 81321.
