Lawrence Joseph Hogan

Lawrence Hogan Obituary

Born on January 9, 1948, in Ottawa, KS, to William and Ethel Hogan, Larry was one of four siblings. He was preceded in death by his sisters Terri (d. 2023) and Peggy (d. 2025). He is survived by his youngest sister, Joy, and her husband, Dennis; his brothers-in-law, Bob and Lee. He had 27 nieces and nephews.

Larry spent many years in a Veteran's Nursing Home in Walsenburg, where he was known for his honesty and insight. During this time, he maintained a very close bond with his brother-in-law, Lee, who served as a devoted friend and confidant. Our family remains deeply grateful for the care Lee provided to Larry over the years.

Larry served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1969 where he drove trucks in Army convoys. It was a brutal look at the villages and roads in a war-torn 3rd World Country that never left him.

Larry was a good brother. He watched over his younger sisters as much as he could growing up. Larry's father was in the Navy children's mother was ill and hospitalized. Larrry and the younger girls joined their dad every Sunday for a ride, the beach or some attraction in the area. They always had a great dinner after the afternoon fun.

Larry was a brilliant man. We are thankful for his life. Larry requested to be cremated and have his ashes spread in Monument Valley in the late Spring.

Earlier today

It saddens me to read about Larry's passing as well as how he spent his life after the Viet Nam War. Larry was so smart in school and a kind person. War is devastating, especially to gentle spirits. My condolences to family, especially long-time spiritual sister in Christ, Joy and husband Dennis. Rest in peace, Larry.
