I remember Lou from my high school days in the 60's. He had a great laugh and he always had a cool car! I think back then, he sported a red convertible, possibly a Chevy or Pontiac? At this age, my memory is a bit foggy. At any rate, Lou was larger than life, easy going and a lot of fun. I always thought a lot of him. Rest in peace, Lou.

I knew Lou from the late 1960s through the 1970s. Early on, he worked at the Honda shop, where I'd stop in whenever I needed motorcycle parts. As a young man passionate about cars, motorcycles, and boats, he later bounced between various shops-fixing vehicles for others by day and building his own dream machines in his spare time.
Like so many of us back then, Lou spent countless evenings cruising Main Street, hanging out at the Dairy Queen watching the parade of cars roll by, or showing off his latest ride in the Safeway parking lot. You'd find him sipping beers at Shakey's, cutting loose on the dance floor at the Ramada or Stockman's, or unwinding at parties out at Totten Lake.
Those were special years in Cortez history-a time of freedom, friendship, and horsepower-and Lou was right in the heart of it. He had a wide circle of friends in town, some of whom followed him when he moved to Page. I visited him there a few times, but the boring winters in Page weren't for me, and eventually we drifted out of touch.
I truly hope the decades that followed treated him as kindly as he treated everyone around him. He was one of the good ones. He'll be missed.
Rest in peace, Lou.
