Margaret Short Obituary

Funeral Mass for longtime Cortez resident Margaret "Marge" Garcia Short will be held on Wednesday, May 8, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Reverend Pat Valdez, C.R., officiating. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.

A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

Marge was born April 14, 1935, in Dolores, the daughter of Jose Marcos and Jesusita (Medina) Garcia. She passed away on May 3, 2013, in Cortez at the age of 78.

On October 20, 1956, Marge and Ben Garcia were united in marriage. They had celebrated 22, almost 23, years of marriage when Ben passed away in 1979. Marge then married Chuck Short on July 4, 1985. This marriage later ended in divorce but they remained very close friends. Marge was a teller with Vectra Bank. Upon retirement, she went to work for the Cortez School District as a bilingual paraprofessional. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed horseback riding, target shooting, camping and fishing. Marge was an avid harmonica player and loved to sing.

Marge is survived by her children, Karen Brown and husband, Doug, of Farmington, N.M.; Laura Martin and husband, Chad, of Ignacio; Trish Stone and husband, Bert, of Eagle, and Traci Ann Garcia of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and her siblings, Louise Martinez of Pueblo and Albert Garcia of Roy, Utah. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Jesusita Garcia; her first husband, Ben Garcia; and three sisters and four brothers.

Services are under the direction of Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Cortez.
