Mark Ward Obituary

Our beloved brother, loving son and father, Mark Edward Ward, 65, passed away on September 22, 2025 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

After his birth in Spearman Texas on July 3, 1960, the family moved back to Cortez, Colorado where Mark grew up in a loving family playing sports, working on a roof for his father and making friends.

Mark's work career included roofing, pipelines in Texas, working for the FBI after graduating from Phoenix Institute of Technology to eventually starting his own business in Phoenix, Cable Pro Technicians.

Here, Mark and his wife would raise their children Sara and Austin.

Mark found joy in nature and adventure. He was drawn to the mountains, whether through hunting or enjoying a round of golf under open skies. He cherished time spent at Rocky Point, Mexico, and Lake Powell as well as San Diego where he found peace and connection with family and friends. A devoted father, sports fan and history enthusiast, he also expressed his love through cooking - bringing people together around meals made with care.

Mark's presence was unforgettable - athletic, a loving father and hardworking, the best big brother with a warm smile and hugs that left lasting impressions. He took great pride in his family and treasured the memories they created together.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother Carole Ward; daughter, Sara Gonzales; son, Austin Ward; brothers: Craig Ward, Brian Ward and Dug Ward and sister Laurie Colbert. He was preceded in death by his father, Tex Ward.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on November 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Elk's Lodge, 2100 N Dolores Rd.

In lieu of flowers the family asks if contributions could be made to the John Zay House in Colorado Springs.

I remember my first year as the varsity football coach at MCHS. In a meeting room I asked the 48 players to vote on their captain for the team. I reminded them that a captain is an inspirational leader with dedication, determination, and commitment. Mark was selected as the team captain unanimously. Speaking on behalf of the coaches and the entire team, Mark, we love you more than words can describe!

I am devastated to hear you are gone, Mark. I've known you since elementary school and I was happy to call you my friend. A couple memories with you pop into my mind . . . you took a trip with my family to Tempe, AZ to visit my Grandmother, circa 1984? I was with you the day you crashed your motorcycle and had to have your face stitched up with no painkillers. You were funny. God bless you up in heaven with your Dad. I'll miss you! Stephanie

Mark is one of the most kindhearted young men I´ve ever known. He was blessed with unbelievable athletic abilities. I regret never telling him that I loved him like a son. Mark will never be forgotten by friends and family. Rest in peace my friend.
