Maryann Todd Obituary

Maryann "Nancy" B. Todd, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at The Valley Inn in Mancos.

Nancy was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Elizabeth, N.J., to Charles and Janet Brewster. Dedicated to the care of others and determined to serve her country, Nancy received her RN degree from the Jersey City School of Nursing in 1942. She married William F. Todd in Tampa, Fla.,, on Oct. 28, 1943, prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd lieutenant stationed at McDill Air Force Base during World War II. Following the war, she lived in Elizabeth, N.J., Alexandria, Va., before settling in Norwalk, Conn. She worked in nursing homes, as a private duty and industrial nurse until her retirement in 1984. Shortly after retiring, she moved to Durango to be near her daughter and pursue her life's dream of working on a reservation.

Nancy happily spent her retirement in Durango until relocating to The Valley Inn in 2008. She was a dedicated member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Jersey City School of Nursing Alumni Association and the Mercy Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Nancy is predeceased by her ex-husband, William; a son, Christopher; her sister, Betty; and her nephew, Peter.

She is survived by two children, Mitch and Ellen; four grandchildren, Robin, Laura, Ashley and Todd; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Vincent and Shelby; two nieces, Linda and Lenore; and one nephew, Robert.

A memorial service with military honors will be held in the chapel of Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango on June 4, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nancy's name to: Hospice of Montezuma, 1345 South Broadway, PO Drawer 740, Cortez, CO 81321, 970-565-4400 or Mercy Health Foundation, 1010 Three Springs Blvd., Durango, CO 81301, 970-764-2800.
