Mattie Rogers Obituary

Mattie Douglas Quinn Rogers, 91, passed away early Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, Colo. She was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Las Animas, Colo., to Joseph and Minnie Quinn.

Mattie graduated from Las Animas High School in 1937. In 1941, she married William DeVerne Rogers in El Paso, Texas.

Mattie was always involved in a Baptist Church, no matter where she lived. She taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, playing her guitar, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She moved to Brush in 2004 and attended the Snyder Bible Church until ill health forced her to move into Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center.

Survivors include her four children, DeVerna Rogers of Brush, Jane Vann of Asheville, N.C., Sue Etheridge of Raleigh, N.C., and Rollie Ray Rogers of Cortez; two sisters, Mildred Harvey of Texas and Dorothy Brunken of Olympia, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, three sisters and her parents.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Lutheran Church at Eben Ezer Care Center. Concluding service and interment will be Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Las Animas Cemetery. Visitation took place at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush on Monday, June 20, 2011. Friends who wish to can make memorial gifts to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to family at heermortuary.com.
