Nellie Mauler Obituary

Nellie Elizabeth Mauler "Betty" went to her eternal rest on March 9, 2021 two months before her 101st birthday at Valley Inn in Mancos. Betty was born in Mancos, Colorado, on May 16, 1920 to Ammon and Nellie Lamb. She married George Mauler and they ranched for many years before George's retirement. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George Mauler, and by her parents and Charles, Mayo, Ruby, and Marianne. She has left to mourn her three daughters, Louise Miller, Dorothy Porter (James), and Carolyn Hale (David), and eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was honored by the City of Mancos, "Betty Mauler Day", on May 16, 2015. Six generations of Betty's family have and are living in Mancos. Betty was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church for 80 years. She will be remembered for her weekly contributions of cookies after Mass. Betty remained in her home until two years ago. She was active, walking every morning, gardening, canning, and her beautiful needlework. Over the years she had made 100 hand-quilted quilts. Her family has lovely crocheted items as well. She was an avid reader and liked to work Word Searches. She a long-time member of Mt. Lookout Grange and a 4-H leader for many years. All her family learned to play cards at young ages and now the next generation also enjoys playing cards.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the spring. She has been laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery by her husband, George.

One of my favorite memories of Betty was going over and playing Spite and Malice (a card game). We would playing for several games (she usually won) and invariably she would get a phone call from the people with Mega millions telling her she had won something and what she had to do to get her money. She would let them have it in often not such nice language and she would hang up on them. It was hilarious and always made my day!

My (step) grandfather was Mayo W. Lamb, her brother. I would like to get in contact with any of her children or grandchildren. I have a picture of Nellie that I would like to get to blood relatives as I am step granddaughter. The pictures means a lot tome as I loved my grandpa, he died before any of my children could meet him so the picture has no meaning. Also have a picture of my grandfather when younger with a young lady, was wondering if the lady in question was a sister or significant other. Thank you. Sorry for your loss. Marti

Betty was a beautiful, fun, delightful and talented angel. I will always consider her one of my best friends and miss her so much. We will see each other again.
