Nora Combs Obituary
Visitation has been set for Wednesday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel.
Nora May Miller was born in Ignacio, Colo. on November 27, 1934 to Edward Miller and Nellie Wade. She passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Vista Grande Inn in Cortez at the age of 79.
On March 2, 1953 Nora married Elmer Martin Combs of Wichita Falls, Tex. Together they had five children and enjoyed 36 wonderful years together. Elmer's work in the oil fields took them to many places over the years; they settled their family back in Cortez in May 1983.
Nora enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting and cooking for her family. She was known for her "secret family recipe" pound cakes that she always sent out as gifts during the holidays. She shared her handiwork with many friends and family. Every summer her home was filled with grandchildren because she loved spending time with them.
Nora is survived by her daughters, Darline Combs of Rawlins, Wyo., and Jerry Lee Hunter and husband, Doug of Green River, Wyo.; her sons, Clay Combs and wife, Jacque of Wickenburg, Ariz. and Brad Combs and wife, Loretta of Cortez; her sisters, Nellie Greer of Mancos, Colo., Grace Lamb of Providence, Ky. and Mina Englehart of Farmington, N.M.; and brother, Ed Miller of Albuquerque, N.M.
Preceding Nora in death are her loving husband, Elmer M. Combs; parents, Ed and Nellie Miller; son, Alan Combs; brothers, Charles Miller, Lee Johnson, Richard "Dick" Johnson, Norman Johnson, and Don Johnson; sister, Edith Johnson; and her granddaughter, Bobbie Dawn Franklin (Hager).
The family of Nora Combs would also like to thank the staff at Vista Grande Inn Long Term Care facility for all their wonderful care and support of Nora. Nora very much enjoyed sharing her stories of her youth with them.
