Norma Conoley Obituary

Graveside services for a longtime Cortez resident, Norma Faith Johnson Conoley, will be held at the Goodman Point Cemetery Saturday, July 14, at 11 a.m. Norma was born in Washington, Kan., March 26, 1913, and died in Lakewood, Colo., Feb. 11, 2012, of complications from a fall.

She married Orrel Conoley in 1935 and they farmed in the Lewis and Arriola communities, moving into their home on Montezuma Avenue in 1943 where they remained until they moved to Greeley, Colo. in 1970. Orrel passed away in 1985.

They had three children, Lila Faith Gunther (Al, deceased) of Lakewood, William Lee, deceased (Donna of Lakewood) and Steven Ray, deceased (Betty of Grand Junction, Colo.). In addition to her daughter Faith and daughters-in-law Donna and Betty, she is survived by her grandchildren, Guy Gunther (Karen) of Tucson, Ariz., Mauri Capps (JT) of Centennial, Colo., Toni Sterner (Andrew) of Littleton, Colo., Jeffrey Conoley (Shiela) of Leavenworth, Wash., Stephanie Scott (Chris) of Bend, Ore., Crystal Frigo (Dan) of Lakewood and William Conoley of Crested Butte, Colo.; 12 great-grandchildren; stepsister Marilyn Ayer (Ray) of Montrose, Colo.; sister-in-law, Lois Conoley Hearne of Moab, Utah; plus many Johnsons in the Cortez, Dove Creek, Mancos and Cahone areas.

Also preceding her in death besides her husband Orrel, are two sons, Bill and Steve; parents, Lyle Herbert Johnson (longtime resident of Cortez) and Ruby Elizabeth McKelvy Johnson; her sister, Lila Ruth Allen; half-sister, Shirley Johnson; and half-brother, Lyle Junior.

Norma moved to Lakewood Estates, an independent senior complex, in 1999 to be close to her daughter Faith. There, she was surrounded by the love of family, remained in good health, maintained a good sense of humor and continued to be a great listener to the end of her 99 years.
