Penny Livingston Obituary
Penny was born on February 24, 1950, in Cortez, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School (M-CHS) in 1968 and then went on to obtain her Bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Colorado and her Master's degree from New Mexico Highlands University, both specializing in Special Education.
Penny is survived by her partner of 28 years, Ron Rosenbaugh of Cortez; daughter Mendee Livingston (Nathan Nicolace) and their daughter Penelope Janae (PJ) of Arvada, CO; son Kyle (Savannah) Livingston of Fort Rucker, AL; and brother Gary (Coni) Ray of Hotchkiss, CO.
Penny is preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Pearl and her sister Zana Ray of Cortez, CO.
Penny is best known in the area as Ms. Penny, teaching Special Education at M-CHS for 14 years before she retired and became a full-time devoted grandma. Penny was dedicated to all her students and received so much joy watching them succeed. She often shared with others that she was so blessed with such great family and friends. Penny was a good friend, a great mom and an even better grandmother. She was so proud of her children, Mendee and Kyle, but her pride and joy in life over the last 2 years has been her granddaughter PJ. Being a grandma was so special for Penny and she treasured every moment.
Services will not be held at this time, due to the holidays, but will be reserved for spring or summer in 2019.
The family is requesting that contributions in memory of Penny be made to the following organizations in lieu of flowers: Community Connections - https://www.communityconnectionsco.org
Penny loved visiting Four Seasons Greenhouse & Nursery and every year for Mother's Day Mendee and Kyle would buy her trees, shrubs or flowers to plant around her house. To this day I will hear Ms. Penny's voice in my heart saying 'Ms Deb. You have students that can do that'. In my head and heart I smile to myself and say'I know Ms. Penny I know and it hits me she is not there but will always be in my heart. She was small but the saying is 'Dynamite comes in small packages'. This was Penny. Ms. Penny I will always miss you. You are greatly loved.

Sorry for our loss of this beautiful lady, she was my sister Donna Dodson's friend in high school, she's been gone from us for 18 years now. Penny always spoke, was genuinely interested in everyone's well being, & had such a beautiful, positive & kind soul.... she'll be soooooo missed, I'd like to think that her & Donna :"D.J." are up in heaven together, up to no good... or being good.... .. maybe. Love & misses Penny, until we meet again, Debra Dodson-Randall & Family.
