Robert Colgan Obituary

Robert Tilford Colgan, Jr., (Bob), 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was born on Aug. 8, 1939 in Louisville, Ky. and grew up in Anchorage, Ky. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Clark Colgan, his three sons, Bob III (Cathy), Sam (Amanda), Chris (Marilyn), his sister Marie Colgan Cranford (Jay), as well as 7 grandchildren, Cassidy, Polly, Lucy, Colby, Tyler, Paul, Rob, and many much loved nieces and nephews.

After building a successful career in the commercial paper business, Bob and his family moved to Southwest Colorado in 1971 where he realized his dream of being a cowboy. For 35 wonderful years, the Colgans operated their ranch in Mancos, just west of Durango. Bob also owned and ran a very successful real estate brokerage company, Southwest Associates, in Durango. His lifelong love of horses resulted in years of training, breeding and successfully competing on cutting horses.

After selling the ranch in 2006, Bob and Mary became permanent residents of Scottsdale, Ariz. Volunteering became a passion for Bob and involvement in horse-back riding therapy for disabled children and adults, as well as dog therapy for hearing impaired children were among his favorites. Bob enjoyed fly-fishing, playing golf, traveling, spending time with his beloved grandchildren and participating in agility events with his dog, Boss. .

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Cave Creek where Bob and Mary have been active members for 18 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Horses Help.
