Robert Wilson Obituary
Rob died Sept. 8, 2022 at his Mancos home after a lengthy illness.
He was 65 years a husband and a father of three daughters of whom he was very proud. He was also a teacher, a social worker, a U.S. Marine, a hunter, a tour guide at Mesa Verde, a black powder shooter, a jewelry maker, a gourd artist, a singer, a storyteller and a fixer of almost anything around the house. He was one of the founders of the Four Corners Rifle and Pistol Range as well as the Junior Rifle Club
He lived an ideal childhood in the Telluride of old with streams, caves, and mountain paths to hike with his dog, Colonel, and a horse for transportation. His family of origin, Frank and Gladys Wilson and his sisters, Betty Jo and Billee Mae preceded him in death.
He graduated from Telluride High School, Mesa Junior College, Colorado State University and Western State College. He taught school in Cortez for more than 20 years and retired from employment as a Child Social Worker in Montrose.
Rob and his wife, Mary lived in Mancos in a home they built with family help for the last two decades.
He is survived by Mary; daughters, Karen, married to Mike Bauer of Cortez; Kimberley Sheek of Mancos and Kristin Wilson-Key, married to Aidan Key of Juneau, AK. There are four granddaughters: Kelley Brienne Unrein and Casey Kennedy of Cortez; Katy Grice of Grand Junction; and Alexis Sheek of Denver; and one grandson, Helios Wilson Levick. Great-grands are Micah Unrein and Reven Kennedy of Cortez; and Connor and Ava Grice of Grand Junction.
An outdoor celebration of his life will be held Sept 25 at the family home, 277 E. First St. in Mancos from 2 until 4 pm. Your mask choice will be honored.
Rob was an honest man, friendly, loyal, loving and kind. He will be greatly missed.

Bloody Ear (Robert Wilson) started our Montrose Mountain Man Club. I only lived a couple blocks from Him & Mary. I have been to Mancos to see him years ago. I'm sorry to hear that he has passed away. We shared a lot of great Rendezvous' together.

We visited in 1999 and Uncle Robert took us to Mesa Verde to be our personal tour guide! He is truly an icon and we miss him dearly. My condolences and prayers for comfort to Aunt Mary and my cousins, Karen, Kim, and Kris.

Getting to know Rob and Mary when they sang with our church choir as guests was such an honor. Then when we were vendors at Cortez Farmers Market we got to to know them even better. Rob will be missed!

My deepest sympathies to the family. His Mother and Father, Frank and Gladys Wilson were my Grandparents, Babe and Jennie Belle Schuler's best friends in Telluride. I am sad to say I never got the chance to meet Rob and had hoped to since moving to Dolores, our paths did not cross. May he Rest Peacefully.

Mr. Wilson was the best Colorado history teacher ever! History came alive with him. He´d wear his buckskin, tell the best stories and have us do the most creative projects. I still remember my project on Peg Leg Smith. Mr. Wilson has a wonderful family and I have fond memories of Kim at Mesa Verde. My most sincere condolences. He was a man who knew how to live life.
