Roger Conn Obituary

Cortez resident Roger David Conn died at his home on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 from melanoma cancer. He was 65.

Roger was born to Donald and Bernice (Jenson) Conn in Albert Lea, Minn. Most of his childhood was spent in Loveland, Colo. graduating from Loveland High School in 1966. He went on to earn an Associates degree from North Eastern Junior College in 1968.

In 1978, he married Barbara Eggleston in Las Vegas, Nev. and they had two children. The couple lived across the Western Slope moving to Montrose, Alamosa, Silverthorne, and Grand Junction, while Roger was with City Market management. In 1985, his family moved to Durango.

Fulfilling a dream of owning his own business, he started Conn Distributing in 1986 servicing several lines of product to area grocery stores. The marriage ended in 1999.

In 2003, Roger moved to Cortez. with longtime companion Joey Sanford. The couple enjoyed spending time with friends, hiking, and taking drives in the country. He was an active member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 507 for twenty-two years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports.

Roger is survived by Joey Sanford of Cortez; daughters, Kristin Conn of Durango, Kathryn "Kati" Rogers and son-in-law, D.J. Rogers of Bayfield, Colo.; sister, Mary Downs of Gillette, Wyo. and sister, Betsy Burns of Loveland, Colo.; former spouse, Barbara Conn of Durango; two grandchildren, Kyra and Keaton Rogers of Bayfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
