Ross Wright Obituary

Ross E. Wright passed away June 5, 2018 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, CO at the age of 94. Ross was born in McPherson, KS on January 19, 1924 to Ray and Grace (Taylor) Wright.

In the early 1940s Ross moved to California where he attended Cal Berkeley majoring in Business. After moving to Bakersfield, CA he became a Certified Public Accountant working in partnership with his father as Wright and Wright. He moved on to become partner in charge of the Bakersfield branch of Fox and Company who merged with Grant Thornton. Ross was also a businessman involved in various businesses in Bakersfield until his retirement in 1987.

Ross was an active outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He loved riding his trail bike on the Mojave Desert. After his retirement, Ross and his wife Donna motor-homed the Western States exploring every fishing hole. They later spent the winters at Lake Roosevelt, AZ and summers in Colorado fishing Groundhog Lake and various other places.

In 2014 Ross became ill with congestive heart failure, so they sold their Arizona home and lived year-round in Cortez.

Ross is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Evelyn and his brother Frank. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna; daughter Alicia (Rich); step-daughter Sue (Marc); and five grandsons, Ryan (Kim), Russell, Reed, William and Benjamin; niece Barbara (Bruce) and nephew Barry (Colleen).

A memorial service will be held August 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Goodman Point Cemetery. A lunch reception will be served at noon at the Wright residence, 2613 Fairway Drive, Cortez.

In memory of Ross, contributions may be made to the Cortez Cultural Center or the American Heart Association in Ross's name.
