Samuel Hankins Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of longtime Egnar resident, Samuel "Sam" Perry Hankins. Sam was born on February 13, 1931 in Cortez, Colorado. He died at the age of 93 on July 8, 2024 at his home in Egnar.

Sam's lifeblood was dryland wheat farming. He began farming as a young man and shared with others his passion for taking care of the land. In the early days, during slow times on the farm, he also served as San Miguel County road foreman.

During his off time, Sam immersed himself and his family in nature. He was always eager to go fishing, camping, and picnicking and had a special interest in the geology of Southwest Colorado and Southeast Utah. Sam was also an excellent handyman and mechanic.

Samuel is survived by his sons Michael, Edward, Steven, and Bruce Hankins and daughter Sara Truelsen, as well as countless grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held On October 19th, at the Dove Creek Pioneer Center, 8540 Rd 7.2, Dove Creek, CO 81324 at 1 PM following a private interment of ashes at the Burns Cemetery in Egnar.
