Sharon Hansen Obituary

Sharon Ann Lyons Hansen died on February 11, 2021 after a brave and unflinching fight with cancer. She is sorely missed by so many, including her immediate family, husband Dr. Karl Hansen, three sons and their families: Alexander Hansen; Zach, Courtney and daughters Aurora and MacKenzie Hansen; and Eric Hansen, Amy Zhou and their daughter, Sophie Hansen. Sharon leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Brownrigg and Charles Brownrigg (deceased), sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Cheryl Hansen, Steve Hansen, Victor Hansen. She was an adored aunt by several nephews: Christopher, Craig (deceased) and Clifton Brownrigg, Derek Hansen, great nephews Angus and Max Brownrigg, and great niece Ruby Brownrigg. Sharon's parents, James and Christine Lyons, preceded her in death.

Sharon was an attorney and served as a Judge in Colorado's 22nd Judicial District for 24 years before retiring in October 2010. She received her J.D. from the University of Denver and held a B.A. from Colorado State University.

Sharon was a Colorado native, born in Greeley, Colorado on March 31, 1950, and raised in Fort Collins. As an adult she spent many years in Cortez, Colorado, and enjoyed riding and caring for horses. After retirement, she moved to the Seattle area in 2016 to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a prodigious writer, reader, and she enjoyed fiction.

In the past Sharon donated her time to several Cortez-area groups, including The Pinon Project and the Rotary Club.

A Memorial will take place in the future.

Sharon would be so pleased to know how much love & happiness she we’ve had together 32 years ago when she married us! Eric was homesick & she had no one to stay with him so he came along. I’ll always have an image of Sharon in her pompom uniform cheering on the FCHS Lambkins! Can see Karl & Sharon walking in the halls. Our world lost a mighty spirit

I only knew Sharon via emails, letters, zoom, pictures and phone calls for the past few years, but I was always so thrilled when I heard from her. We were cousins that had just found each other and were getting acquainted. My heart is broken that we never had time to meet in person, and I know I'll be giving her the biggest hug ever when we meet in Heaven. RIP Sharon!

I served on a jury under her guidance. She was an excellent judge, fair, pleasant, and compassionate. She will be missed by all who knew her.

As the parents of Sharon's daughter-in-law Courtney, my husband Mark and I would like to say that Sharon was a wonderful grandmother to her 3 granddaughters. She had such a loving spark and brought such joy to them. She was so lovely and very thoughtful and will be deeply missed by so many. RIP sweet Sharon.

Oh, Dear Sharon.....a mighty judge, a generous giver, a dear friend. I so enjoyed her enthusiasm for Trick r Treat decorations and her fun Thee Book Club parties. She was such a gracious hostess and she gave me several small gifts that I continue to appreciate to this day. I felt loved by her and rejoiced when Aurora was born and her excitement. She fought a brave fight with the cancer....now she is in the Lord's Everlasting Arms...rewarded as a good and faithful servant to so many. May her family find comfort and peace....even with the tears. Love and prayer, In Jesus, Cindy Irvin+

Sharon Hansen was the most caring judge this county has ever had, and the most diligent. She left no stone unturned when it came to helping victims and made sure that the law was carried out properly.
