Tom was born in Columbiana, AL in 1937 to the late B.F. and Dorothy S. Hatchett. He attended Auburn University and Emory School of Dentistry, graduating in 1961. Tom always loved dentistry, his practice, and his patients. Another one of Tom's greatest loves was for his farm, where he enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle that he often called ""His Girls"". He was often quoted as saying he was a ""part-time dentist to support his full-time farming habit.""After retiring from his dental practice in 1998, Tom and his wife moved to Durango, CO where he continued practicing dentistry for the native tribes in the area working for the Indian Health Services. Tom and Hersha moved back to Dublin in 2010. Tom continued his hobbies of blacksmithing and jewelry making until forced by illness to give it up. He loved working with his hands and was very talented, making some beautiful pieces. Tom was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Dublin and a past member of the Dublin Rotary.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hersha Hatchett of Dublin; sons, Tommy (Missy) Hatchett of Demorest, GA and Matt (Kim) Hatchett of Dublin; daughter, Holly Hatchett of North Augusta, SC; step-son, Jim (Heather) Phillips of Franklin, TN; stepdaughters, Chris (Wallace) Smith of Durango, CO and Meeka (Don) Worthley of Savannah; grandchildren, Collier Hatchett of Atlanta, Bo Hatchett of Macon, Ben Hatchett of Columbus, Hart, Will, and Dory Hatchett of Clarkesville and Emily and Camille Hatchett of Dublin; brother, Frank (Jeannie) Hatchett of Florence, AL; sisters, Ann Cheney and Betty (Gary) Weir, both of Montgomery, AL and several nieces and nephews. I have so many wonderful memories, starting when I met Hersha and Tom when they drove their two ATVs over to our new house in Horse Gulch. We had a lot of laughs and a lot of good food. The train ride in the evening to the Wye with Hersha's great cheddar bscuits and Tom's brother's stories of life growing up in Georgia stands out. As does our train ride to Alamosa and spending the night at the bed and breakfast. I know the obituray said no flowers, but I could not resist. I hope he and Obi have connected already.
