Tom Myers Obituary

Tom Herschel Myers was born Feb. 4, 1939, to Roy F. Myers and Nora Ruth Hickey Myers, in Cortez.

Tom grew up in McElmo Canyon, Rico and Cortez, where he graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School. After high school, Tom was inducted into the Army on Jan. 4, 1962, at the age of 22. He was in the infantry and trained in field communications at Fort Carson, Colo. He became an E2 in the 3rd Brigade where he was to deploy to Vietnam. His father died, and he was released with an honorable discharge due to hardship for his mother.

Tom worked for the Rico Argentine Mining Co. as an electrician, then went to Standard Metals, also as an electrician, until they closed. He went back to Rico Argentine Mining Co., where he married Charlotte Williams. Two children were born to this union, which ended in divorce. He moved his children to Montrose, where they both graduated high school. Tom retired from Russell Stover's in 2007 due to failing health. After retirement, Tom would go to The Windmill Restaurant and have coffee with his friends. He also enjoyed picking up his grandchildren, and taking them to and from school.

Tom died at his home on Nov. 5, 2011.

Services were held Nov. 9 in Montrose, and Nov. 11 in Cortez.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Amber Lynn Myers Haptonstall and husband Mike; son, Warren Joseph Myers and wife Clariesse; three grandchildren, Terry Bain, Logen Haptonstall, and Adrianna Myers; one sister, Virginia Brien; friend, Amos Hathaway of Hemet, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was loved - and will be greatly missed - by all.

Cards and remembrances of Tom may be sent to the family at 62880 W. LaSalle Rd. #44, Montrose, CO 81401.
