Vaughn Hougland Obituary

Vaughn Wayne Hougland was born April 18, 1962, in Monticello, Utah. He passed away on Aug. 3, 2013 at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz. He was 51.

Growing up in Cortez as a young boy, Vaughn loved to go fishing with his grandfather. The fish stories they came home with were pretty unbelievable!

He enjoyed watching football and was a big fan of the Denver Broncos.

After graduating from high school he moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he furthered his education. Vaughn was an excellent cook and cooked in various restaurants in Arizona. After traveling to Alaska for a summer, he went to work for Fed-X and shortly after decided that his love for the outdoors would lead him to a career in landscaping.

Vaughn is survived by his mother, Sally Maestas; his sister, Alisa Stine and husband, Steven, all of Littleton, Colo.; grandmother, Fern Maestas; and his father, Gerald Hougland, of Cortez; two aunts, Helen Leffel and husband, Layne, of Cortez, and Mary Logan of Las Vegas, Nev.; his immediate cousins, Denise Sanchez and husband, Shane; Brian Leffel, and Dawn Marie Hill and husband, Nate. Also, two very special young girls he was looking forward to meeting were Sara and Samantha.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Fred Maestas; and his cousin, Kip Logan.

Cremation has taken place with private graveside services pending.
