William Fraser Obituary

Memorial services for William H. "Bill" Fraser Jr. will be held at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church in Cortez, CO on Jan. 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.

Bill passed away peacefully in San Diego, CA on Nov. 29, 2015 at 92 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Sarah C. Fraser. Bill and Sally are survived by three children, Bill, Doug, and Amy, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Bill was born in New York City on June 6, 1923. He was raised in Metuchen, NJ where he graduated from high school in 1941. Bill volunteered for the Army following the attack on Pearl Harbor and served as both an enlisted man and officer during World War II. Following his military service, he returned to college, graduating from Colorado School of Mines in 1949. He and Sally were married shortly afterward and began a career with the Superior Oil Company.

During his 34 years with Superior, he and Sally lived and worked in many places around the world, including Colombia, New Zealand, Israel, Peru, and Papua New Guinea. Bill retired from Superior as Manager of International Operations in 1983.

Of all the places they lived, Cortez was always home, so Bill and Sally moved back here in 1983. Over the next 30 years, Bill actively volunteered with several organizations in Cortez, including the Cortez Cultural Center and the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. He was also the first volunteer to serve at the Cortez Welcome Center.
