Adeline Hite Lundy
January 21, 1939 - March 19, 2026
Columbia, South Carolina - Adeline Hite Lundy, 87, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her family and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Born on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina January 21, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Milton Lafayette Hite and Mildred Lee Moore.
She was a 1960 graduate of Columbia College (BA in Biology) and a 1972 graduate of USC (Masters in Counseling). She was once employed as a Lab Tech at the State Health Laboratory, a life science teacher at Crayton Middle School, and a biology teacher at Dreher High School.
Mrs. Lundy will best be remembered for her 32 years of service and dedication at Hammond School where her roles included: biology teacher, Director of Counseling, Assistant Headmaster and Interim Headmaster. The entryway gates of Hammond School have been named The Adeline H. Lundy Gates. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Joy Class, Delta Kappa Gamma - honorary education society-, National Association of College Admission Counselors, Fundraising volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and a member of the Columbia Architectural Wives Society.
Mrs. Lundy is predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Goode Frank Lundy, Jr. Surviving are two children, Frank Milton Lundy (Patty) of Columbia, Logan Lundy Camp (Tim) of Spartanburg, and 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Alexander Shaw Camp (Sydney), Lundy Camp Few (MacRae), James Mencken Camp, Adeline Bridgers Lundy, Worth Williamson Lundy, Steele Joseph Camp, and Reese Cooper Camp. In addition, Mrs. Lundy is survived by her sister Marcia Hite Bonds, nephew Brian Berry Bonds, and nieces Mary Paul Hoile and Millicent Smoak Peeler.
Cherishing time spent with family and friends, Mrs. Lundy was a loving grandmother (Addie) and a loyal and devoted friend. She was a good listener and a good problem solver. She found great joy playing bridge with some of her dearest friends. Other hobbies included reading, looking at pictures, laughing and sharing stories, and helping those in need.
Devoted to the education profession for more than 40 years, Mrs. Lundy offered great wisdom, guidance, compassion, leadership, and love to many students and families. Upon her retirement from Hammond School in 2004, she was described as a "pillar on which Hammond's purpose was built and supported." Her focus on student potential gave her the ability to assist many students in obtaining acceptance into prestigious colleges and universities. She could best be described as an invaluable guide, second to none in her dedication to Hammond, a steadying force in the midst of change, and as one who had a constant open door policy filled with a smile and a willingness to listen. She loved her job and all her Hammond children.
Dunbar Funeral Home (Devine) will be assisting the family with arrangements. A family only service will be held in the Hammond Chapel on Saturday, April 11 followed by a receiving of friends at Forest Lake Club 4-6pm.
