Mary Jo Dewar

Lexington, South Carolina - Mary Jo Dewar, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Born December 28, 1937, in Allendale, SC, she was the daughter of Thomas Baker Warren and Mannie Wardlaw Warren. A 1959 graduate of Winthrop College, Mary Jo taught elementary school in Augusta, GA, and Seattle, WA, before living in Yakima, WA, where she served as a Reach to Recovery coordinator for the American Cancer Society. She later returned to South Carolina and worked for DHEC for 13 years. In retirement, she taught water aerobics for 16 years at Harbison Recreation Center in Columbia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Thomas Baker Warren, MD, and Robert Wardlaw Warren, and her sister-in-law, Marcia Warren. Survivors include her children, Warren Lloyd Dewar III (Carolyn), James Baker Dewar, MD (Melanie), and Sallie Amanda Berry (Jeff); sister-in-law Julie Dews; six grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Allendale Presbyterian Church, 230 Flat Street West, Allendale, SC, with a reception to follow.
