Willliam Amick

August 18, 1947 - March 29, 2026

Columbia, South Carolina - William Ray Amick, 78, of Lexington, SC passed away peacefully March 29, 2026 surrounded by his children. Born August 18, 1947 to the late H. Ray and Eleanor Amick, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Suzanne Cyr Amick and his sister Rosalyn Carson.

He is survived by his sisters Harriet Anderson and Miriam Sekhon; his children Traysie Amick, Shannon Osborne, and Ryan Amick; and his grandsons William and Ethan Osborne.

Bill grew up in West Columbia, earned a Mechanical Engineering B.S. from USC in 1970, and met his lifelong love Suzanne Cyr - whom he married May 17, 1969 and cherished for over 50 years. He proudly bragged that he'd "raised kind, self-sufficient, contributing members of society, who are not presently incarcerated."

A brilliant businessman, he grew Amick Equipment Co. into the largest refuse equipment dealer in the Carolinas and co-founded ASI with Greg Hicks, serving over 25,000 Richland County residents. He lived fully - hunting, fishing, flying, golfing, and spending countless hours on Lake Murray. In his final years at Lakeview Retirement, he schooled his opponents in backgammon and told extraordinarily long jokes.

Even as cancer spread through his body in his final weeks, he remained sharp and humorous. He found comfort in family, country music, books, and Jesus Christ. The world is a better place because of Bill Amick.

A memorial will be held at Golden Hills CC on Saturday, April 4th. Pastor Rob Cely of Cherokee Presbyterian Church will officiate alongside his dear friend Gregg Varner.
